The Bahamas Breeze Is Calling
The islands in the Bahamas offer a wide variety of fun for travelers of all ages. The water there is crystal clear and is ideal for fishing and scuba diving, while the white sandy beaches allow for optimal relaxation and sunbathing. For the more adventurous and young at heart there are glass bottom boat rides and casinos, and don’t forget about swimming with the dolphins, which is great for all ages.
The two largest, and most popular, islands in the Bahamas are Freeport and Nassau. Both islands offer great water activities and family fun, but Freeport, in the Grand Bahamas may be a bit more family-oriented. Not sure what to do, why not start at the International Bazaar located in Freeport? That is always a great spot to barter with the natives and save some money on jewelry, handbags, shoes, and clothing.
If you are excited to throw your line in the water and try your luck at deep-sea fishing you will not be disappointed in the Bahamas. There are a plethora of tropical fish available, like marlins, tuna, barracuda, and amberjack. There is almost 100,000 square miles of marine territory and the Bahamas is actually home to about 5% of the world’s coral reefs, so if scuba diving and sea life is something you enjoy, you will have plenty to see. You might even be lucky enough to catch a glimpse of a whale, so don’t forget to bring an underwater camera!
If you are big on the beach and are planning a trip to the Bahamas, you may want to consider checking out Blister Beach in Freeport. It is a semi-secluded beach with plenty of relaxing spots to lay a towel down or splash around in the waves with the family. Also, if you want to check out some historical sights, you can pay a visit to Fort Fincastle or the Queen’s Staircase in Nassau. As you can see, there’s something here for everyone!
Another great thing about the Bahamas is the weather. Since it’s located in the Caribbean the temperatures is always between 70 and 90 degrees no matter the season. This allows for the Bahamas to be the perfect vacation spot all year round, especially during the winter when lots of travelers are looking to get away from the cold. You should, however, check the weather forecast and avoid traveling anywhere in the Caribbean during hurricane season, just in case.
Getting to the Bahamas can be a fun adventure on its own! It’s only about a hundred miles off the coast of Florida, so there are many different options to get out there. Airfare is not the only option, although it is usually quicker which allows for more relax time on the island itself. However, if you’re not in a big hurry, you may want to consider taking the Ferry Express to Freeport, or even chartering a boat, which would allow you to check out some of the other smaller islands and sand bars along the way.
Once you have arrived on the island, you will find that there are plenty of taxi services available to get you to local watering holes, restaurants, and hotels. It’s not recommended to rent a car if you’re not familiar with the island, but you might consider staying close by and renting a scooter or bike.
